The EcoLodge and the environmental education programmes are run by Greyton Transition Town which is part of the worldwide movement of around 3000 towns bringing their communities together to find local solutions to the global challenges of peak oil and climate change. GTT is the first official transition town in South Africa and a flagship project of the Western Cape government’s 110% Green Initiative.

GTT works within the community on such issues as food security, waste management, healthy housing, renewable energy and integration/equality. Central to the charity’s work are the after school and holiday eco crew and eco ranger programmes for vulnerable children and young people aged 8 – 25 years. Every cent of income generated from the EcoLodge, after costs have been met, is donated to the Eco-Crew/Ranger programme. For more information about GTT see www.greytontransition.co.za
